Gary Cunningham joins G&J Policy Fellow team

Growth & Justice is proud to announce that Gary Cunningham, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Economic Development Association, is joining our team of Policy Fellows. In addition to his leadership helping start and grow minority-owned businesses, Gary serves on the Metropolitan Council, is a prominent member of the African-American Leadership Forum and is a former vice president of the Northwest Area Foundation. His deep understanding of the complexities and causes of racial disparity in Minnesota is illustrated in Forging Equitable Communities: Creating New Structures of Opportunity, an essay recently published in the Poverty & Race Research Council’s national newsletter. Gary's insights were also featured in a recent Star Tribune article about the racial divide in the Twin Cities.

Renewable Energy & Solar Gardens

Growth & Justice has joined a coalition of environmental leaders and renewable energy advocates who have asked the Public Utilities Commission to provide easier access to community solar gardens for low-income households and communities of color. Learn more about this initiative and other important developments in sustainable energy policy on the Community Power and Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light websites.

Almanac discusses Minnesota's business climate

On Friday, April 8 Growth & Justice President Dane Smith appeared on TPT’s Almanac for a spirited conversation about Minnesota’s quality of life and the importance of ample public investment in human capital and public infrastructure. Dane provided important perspective on recent reports alleging “wealth migration” and noted that Minnesota continues to outperform low-tax Sunbelt states on both socio-economic indicators (justice) and business performance measures (growth). Watch the debate now beginning at 8 minutes 20 seconds.
