The Center for Small Towns and Growth & Justice began a partnership in 2020 to build and launch the Minnesota Equity Map. It’s an evolving platform through which we can all recognize the vital and often underappreciated work done by community organizations and activists to foster regional, racial, and environmental equity. It encourages and aids idea-sharing and cooperation between communities and community members who want to take action and create change for the betterment of all. In these uncertain times, it has become even more important for community organizations and activists to step up and share their work to alleviate disparities that weaken our economic and social vitality.
Below you can read about the wide range of equity action initiatives and their spread statewide. The listed initiatives are categorized into the chapters of the Minnesota Equity Blueprint— Human Capital, Economic Development, Infrastructure, and Environmental Resilience— as well as a cross-sectional category, as several initiatives fall into multiple categories. There are currently over forty stories (drawn from the Blueprint, the Rural Communities Equity Action Guide, interviews done at the Center for Small Towns and entries from local communities), and we are looking for more.
If you would like to share the story of an equity initiative in your community or region, please fill out this brief contact & information form and we’ll add it to the map! The Equity Map is meant to be an ongoing project and we are excited to add more stories about the great work done around Minnesota.
