Christina Wessel: Make Minnesota's budget add up to a future that works
Although I hate to admit it, the state's budget is more than a bunch of numbers. I really enjoy immersing myself in general-fund balance statements and legislative committee spreadsheets, but I know the figures should add up to a vision for the future of our state. Right now, the figures may not add up as nicely as we'd like, but that's no reason to give up on that vision.

There are some things we can do to keep Minnesota moving forward, even under these difficult circumstances.

First, the obvious: We need to get the state's economy going again. Most economists would agree that the goal of the public sector in a recession is to keep money flowing. The federal government has taken the first step and done what it does best at a time like this
