Growth & Justice partners with Wealth for the Common Good to build a "Coalition of the WIlling Taxpayer"
Growth & Justice co-sponsored  presentations in the Twin Cities this week with Chuck Collins, co-founder of Wealth for the Common Good, to help kick off a new partnership with the nationwide organization. A more shared prosperity, ample and smart public investments, and fair taxation are core values for both organizations. Collins, a Midwest native and long-time community organizer, spoke at length about the need for a “Coalition of the Willing Taxpayers,” wealthy individuals who accept the necessity of their taxation, to make their voice heard and fundamentally change the conversation about taxation from the context of punishment to one of repayment. At meetings with citizens in St. Paul and Minneapolis, Collins praised affluent citizens in both groups who view taxes not as an attack on their hard-earned success, but as gratitude for the commonwealth that made their fortunes possible. Wealth for the Common Good will work with Growth & Justice to continue building an active network of affluent Minnesotans who recognize their obligation and responsibility to expand prosperity.

Chuck Collins, who lives in Boston, is a senior scholar at the Institute for Policy Studies where he directs the Program on Inequality and the Common Good. He was a co-founder of United for a Fair Economy, and his latest book, the co-authored The Moral Measure of the Economy, appeared earlier this year. He also co-authored Wealth and Our Commonwealth: Why America Should Tax Accumulated Fortunes with Bill Gates Sr. as an appeal to maintain the federal estate tax.
